About the Work

A Bloom You Can Hear is a large floral abstract that started as a bloom and ended up sounding like a reef.

The painting is built from the bottom up: deep navy, almost black, holding a fast, open burst of burnt orange, amber and gold that spreads like coral opening underwater. Intense orange, Indian yellow, ochre, pale blue-grey and deep navy are layered in mixed-media on canvas.

The name comes from real reefs. Healthy corals are not silent. They crackle, pop and hiss, shrimp, fish and the corals themselves create a constant low sound. Marine biologists have even played reef sounds to help attract marine life back to degraded reefs.

This painting is that noise in color, an orange bloom you can almost hear. Bold, warm and energetic, not sweet. At 5 x 4 feet, it has the presence to anchor a large wall and works beautifully above a sofa, credenza, dining room table or in a spacious entryway.

Perfect For

— Large statement art for living room over sofa or credenza
— Dining room or spacious entryway that needs life and movement
— Collectors of coral reef, floral abstract and orange navy paintings
— Warm modern, bold contemporary & coastal luxe interiors
